Most retailers make their year around Christmas, but the festive season for home improvement is just winding down. Second-quarter results this week for Home Depot and Lowe’s, and numbers already released two weeks ago by Floor & Decor will make for a muted celebration. The three companies’ shares have lagged the S&P 500 by between 35 and 50 percentage points in the past year.

Monday Economic data: Empire state manufacturing survey (Federal Reserve Bank of New York), NAHB home builder confidence index, Treasury international capital data (U.S.), CPI (Canada). Earnings (p.
Telsey, Truist, and Deutsche Bank raised Target’s price targets ahead of fiscal second-quarter 2026 earnings.
Dow futures were down 0.09%, while the S&P 500 futures climbed 0.09% and the Nasdaq-100 futures were up 0.25% at the time of writing.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average finished the week down 0.6% on Friday, snapping a two-week winning streak.

Lowe’s, TJX, Alibaba, and Toll Brothers will also report earnings. On the economic front, we’ll see Fed minutes, housing-market data, and readings on manufacturing and services activity.

The Q2 earnings season is winding down, but many retail companies, including Walmart, have still yet to report. It and other big-box retailers have faced a difficult operating environment, with elevated fuel costs adding to consumers' financial burdens and increasing retailers' expenses.
