South Korea will launch a 5 trillion won ($3.52 billion) semiconductor fund targeting promising chip materials, parts, equipment and fabless companies, a presidential official said, as Seoul seeks to accelerate plans for new chip manufacturing hubs across the country. The government will also provide a further 5 trillion won in trade finance for suppliers, Presidential Chief of Staff Kang Hoon-sik told a press briefing after a meeting chaired by President Lee Jae Myung on Monday. The measures are part of Lee's semiconductor megaproject initiative unveiled in June, under which Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix, together with suppliers and local governments, are expected to invest more than $576 billion in new chip manufacturing projects, including major fabrication facilities in the country's southwest region.
Warby Parker (NYSE:WRBY) reported second-quarter revenue of $235.5 million, up 9.8% from a year earlier, as retail sales growth, eye exam expansion and higher average order values helped offset continued softness in customer traffic and the effects of ending its Home Try-On program. Adjusted EBITDA
GRAIL Inc (GRAL) reports 26% revenue growth and 35% increase in test volumes, while navigating FDA advisory committee timeline and competitive pressures.
Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix face growing calls from investors wanting a greater share of excess cash via dividends or buybacks, after the pair provided scant detail on capital returns when reporting AI-driven record profit. The world's two largest memory chip makers are generating cash at an unprecedented pace due to robust demand for chips used in AI applications, amassing reserves that exceed those of U.S. tech giants that are spending heavily on AI infrastructure. Samsung and SK Hynix are set to hold a combined $263 billion in net cash by year-end, more than double the estimated $102 billion of AI bellwether Nvidia and exceeding the combined cash of the other six "Magnificent Seven" U.S. technology companies, LSEG data and Reuters calculations showed.
GRAIL (NASDAQ:GRAL) reported second-quarter revenue growth driven by higher Galleri test volumes, while outlining continued efforts to secure FDA approval, expand its commercial organization and build international distribution partnerships. Revenue totaled $44.7 million in the second quarter, up 2

Asian shares surged and oil prices slipped Wednesday after the U.S. stock market rallied to records, helped by strong corporate earnings reports and hopes for a deal setting the stage for talks that might eventually lead to an end to the war in Iran. Japan's Nikkei 225 gained 3.3% to 66,068.24, with chipmaker Kioxia surging 6.3% while chip testing equipment maker Advantest soared 6.9%. Tech giant Samsung Electronics advanced 4.1%.
Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix are evaluating chipmaking equipment from China's Advanced Micro-Fabrication Equipment (AMEC) for possible use at their Chinese factories, three people familiar with the matter said, as the South Korean firms hedge against the risk of tighter U.S. export controls. The memory chipmakers began testing AMEC etching equipment about two years ago, when uncertainty was mounting over whether Washington would continue allowing them to import U.S. chipmaking tools into China, two of the sources said.
