Workday’s $51 billion takeover talks could reset the software trade

For much of 2026, software investors have been grappling with a terrifying question: What if artificial intelligence makes many of the apps that firms have spent decades buying considerably less valuable? If Workday (WDAY) is acquired, that argument could lead Wall Street to reconsider how far it ...

Workday buyout may restore confidence in battered software valuations, analysts say

Silver Lake's potential Workday buyout could bolster battered software valuations by showing that private equity remains confident in ‌the industry's prospects despite fears of AI disruption, analysts and investors ‌said on Friday. Shares of the human-resources and financial management software company soared nearly 18% on Thursday after Reuters exclusively reported about its acquisition talks with Silver Lake, which pushed its market value to more than $51 billion. The enthusiasm provided some relief to a sector hammered this year by fears that AI tools capable of generating computer code and ‌creating applications could erode the need for software services, which have long been one of Silicon Valley's most reliable cash generators.

Software M&A heats up: Which SaaS stocks could be next for private equity?

The surge rippled immediately across the software sector, reigniting a debate that has dogged the industry for months: whether the deal reflects a genuine valuation floor for beaten-down SaaS names, or signals that even blue-chip software companies are struggling to navigate the AI transition.

Workday (WDAY) Stock May Be 40% Below Fair Value Despite Buyout Talks

Workday stock has surged in the past month, yet the valuation signals are split. An intrinsic value estimate from a Discounted Cash Flow (DCF) model points to a sizeable gap to the current price, while market based multiples suggest the shares are not cheap and the broader value checks lean that way too. Workday is up 47.7% over the past month, which puts recent momentum in sharp contrast with a longer term record that includes a 7.0% decline over the past year. The reported acquisition...

US Stock Market Today: S&P 500 Futures Edge Higher As Inflation Watch Intensifies

The Morning Bull - US Market Morning Update Friday, Aug, 14 2026 US stock futures edge higher this morning, with E-mini S&P 500 contracts up about 0.1%, as investors focus on fresh inflation clues and rising government borrowing. The key data point is July producer prices, which are projected to rise 0.2% for overall PPI and 0.3% for core PPI that strips out food and energy. This matters because it shows what companies are paying to make goods, which can later shape what consumers pay on the...

Silver Lake in talks to buy Workday: sources

<body><p>VIDEO SHOWS: N/A</p><p>STORY: "It's been a wild ride for software companies."</p><p>:: Sources say Silver ‌Lake is in talks to acquire Workday</p><p>"Silver Lake has been in talks with Workday for a take-private deal."</p><p>:: New York / August 13, 2026</p><p>:: Milana Vinn, Correspondent</p><p>"Sources have told us that talks have been going on for months, but we are yet to establish how advanced these discussions are. This would be a really significant deal because software deals have been largely on the sidelines this year.</p><p>"The reason why is because earlier this year, frontier labs had released some of the AI agents that created fear in the market that software companies may not be that valuable as they used to be in the past. So we saw this broader sell-off of software stocks and some companies with pretty strong fundamentals like Workday had been part of that mix. The company actually was down 15% since the beginning of the year before Reuters reported on the discussions. So it creates an opportunity for a sponsor like Silver Lake to come in and do a deal of that size. Silver Lake's&nbsp;also has done deals like this before."</p><p>"Earlier this month, Silver Lake had completed their $55 billion acquisition of Electronic Arts, which is a really significant deal as well. For that deal, they had partnered with their co-investors. So I assume, and we hear from sources that that's likely the case. They will partner with a co-investor for a take-private of Workday."</p><p>"It's really significant because it shows that there is confidence that the terminal value of software companies is still there. And AI is not as significant of a risk for some companies as we previously thought, the market previously thought."</p></body>

Private equity calls the AI derating overdone

Derek Hernandez is a senior Emerging Technology analyst at PitchBook Today, it became abundantly clear that private equity now believes public markets have priced AI risk too indiscriminately. Thoma Bravo agreed to buy specialty-insurance platform Accelerant for over $4 billion and a 49% premium to Wednesday’s close. Hours later, Reuters reported that Silver Lake has discussed acquiring Workday, the enterprise software provider currently valued at around $43 billion. Although the Workday transac
