The Nasdaq and S&P 500 were gaining steam as the morning rolled on Thursday. Software stocks were a big reason why. The Nasdaq was up 0.5%, while the S&P 500 was up 0.4%. The Dow was down 20 points, or essentially flat.

Stocks were struggling to build on their recent records on Thursday after the latest escalation between the U.S. and Iran and the hottest inflation report since 2023. The Dow fell 301 points, or 0.5%. The S&P 500 was down 0.1%.
