Canada's Shopify forecasts revenue above estimates, shares surge

Canada's Shopify projected current-quarter revenue growth above Wall Street estimates on Wednesday, signaling the company's AI efforts were drawing more merchants ‌to its suite of e-commerce services, sending its U.S.-listed shares up 26% ‌premarket. The company's solid outlook and a second-quarter revenue beat are set to quell investor concerns about growing competition from new AI tools targeting small businesses that have dented Shopify's shares. If premarket gains hold, Shopify shares are set to recoup all losses this year.

Kenya's stock exchange plans East Africa's first AI-focused ETF

Kenya's Nairobi Securities Exchange is creating East Africa's first AI stocks-focused exchange-traded fund, which it plans to offer to investors before year-end, its CEO said. The Nairobi market attracts a sizeable ‌proportion of foreign equity investors given its profitable banking sector and telecoms operator Safaricom, but it does not currently ‌offer exposure to AI stocks. "We want essentially to be able to bring a product to our market where the underlying basket is a reflection of companies that have a direct exposure to AI," Frank Mwiti told Reuters.

Citadel’s Purchase of Situational’s Stocks at Discount Is Already Paying Off

Citadel’s purchase of the bulk of the stock portfolio of the AI-focused hedge fund Situational Awareness helped propel its performance last month. Citadel’s flagship Wellington fund, a more diversified vehicle that includes wagers on and against shares alongside credit, commodity, macro and quant positions, gained about 6% in July, while Citadel’s tactical-trading fund gained about 11%, the person said. Citadel snapped up the AI stocks from Situational on July 30, at a discount of greater than 10%, as the San Francisco-based firm was scrambling to raise cash to meet margin calls following a brutal tech selloff, The Wall Street Journal previously reported.
