Shares in Europe and Asia were mostly lower Thursday following a retreat on Wall Street as the price of crude oil again traded above $100 a barrel. Marriott has been treading water for the past six months, holding steady at $329.77. The stock also fell short of the S&P 500’s 13.6% gain during that period.

Jersey Mike’s reports $208 million in corporate revenue for the fiscal second quarter, in line with analysts’ expectations.

Barclays raised its year-end S&P 500 target to 7,950 from 7,800, citing a "standout earnings season" led by technology.

Stocks looked set for a negative open on Wednesday as fresh strikes between the U.S. and Iran drove up oil prices, adding to the market’s worries about inflation. S&P 500 futures were down 0.2% and Nasdaq 100 futures also fell 0.2%. The three indexes slid the previous session as Wall Street fretted about the run-up in oil prices.

After a strong run up for the stock, investors appear to be demanding more than just another earnings beat.
