Tim Archer, CEO of Lam Research, said that his company is investing over a billion dollars to stay ahead of AI buildout demand and the accelerating pace of AI innovation. Archer said that new AI models are demanding more computational power, bandwidth and storage and Lam Research is focused on semiconductor chip innovation to meet those needs.

Micron Technology (MU) broke ground on a new memory fab in July 2026 that will cost $9.3 billion and still not produce a single chip until 2028. That gap, years between shovel and shipment, is the real story behind every headline about the AI memory shortage. No amount of capital spending shortens ...
While several analysts praised the results and long-term outlook, others said expectations had been higher, citing gross-margin commentary, near-term guidance, and the pace of systems growth.

Applied Materials shares fell about 5% in premarket trading on Friday, as the chip equipment maker's upbeat outlook failed to soothe investors worried about the threat from intensifying competition. The muted reaction illustrates the high bar chip stocks have to clear and suggests that investors have little tolerance for any hint that a company may be falling behind peers. After a sharp rally that has more than doubled Applied's shares this year, investors want clearer signals that the company's growth is outpacing rivals in the wafer-fab-equipment market.
Lam Research said on Thursday it intends to invest more than $3 billion in the next five years to expand its global research and development lab network, as it seeks to increase experiment capacity and speed up product development. The U.S. chip equipment maker said the multi-site expansion is expected to increase its experiment capacity by over 50%. • Lam Research is making the investment with the intention of staying ahead of customers' needs as the pace of innovation requires chips with new architectures, different materials and complex features engineered with nanoscale precision, CEO Tim Archer said.

Applied Materials forecast fourth-quarter revenue above Wall Street expectations on Thursday, betting that unabated demand for advanced AI chips will continue to fuel robust spending on its semiconductor manufacturing equipment. The company forecast quarterly revenue of around $10.25 billion, plus or minus $500 million, compared with analysts' average estimate of $9.54 billion, according to data compiled by LSEG.

Investing.com -- In a note on Tuesday, Bernstein lifted its forecasts for wafer fabrication equipment (WFE) spending, raising price targets across its semiconductor equipment coverage on growing conviction that the current upcycle "has legs."
Record revenue and margins driven by NAND demand surge and strong customer support services.
Everyone racing to own AI chip stocks may be buying into the wrong part of the supply chain. The real toll booth sits one step behind the GPUs, and one company collects on every wafer that makes next-gen AI hardware possible.
In this segment of the AI Investor Podcast from 24/7 Wall St., Eric Bleeker reviews Lam Research, a semiconductor equipment holding originally recommended to the million dollar AI portfolio he manages as part of a collection of memory-adjacent stocks. The quarter itself was solid: $1.82 in EPS against $1.70 expected, with the standout being guidance of $2.15 for next quarter versus a street estimate of $1.84. The stock jumped about 20% the next morning, though Bleeker attributes most of that to how far it had fallen during July's selloff rather than to the results, which he characterizes as good but not spectacular. His hesitation is valuation. Against a full-year estimate of $9.40, the shares trade a bit above 30 times forward earnings, which he considers the upper end of the historical range. He is not planning to add more with other opportunities across the market after a steep July sell-off. The broader read on semiconductor equipment is more bullish. Taiwan Semiconductor raised capex, Intel sounded optimistic on capex needs, and Bleeker guesses 2028 equipment spending could come in roughly 25% above where Wall Street currently models it. He is particularly interested in advanced packaging and testing, sub-verticals growing faster than the overall space. Lam remains a core long-term holding and, in his view, among the best operators in semi equipment.
