OpenAI is in an IPO pickle. A year ago, the idea of an OpenAI listing would have had Wall Street salivating, with relatively few reservations about its large financial losses or questions about its leadership. After surviving an attempted ouster two years prior, chief Sam Altman had carved OpenAI into his nascent industry’s undisputed king and hitched himself closely to the much wealthier Microsoft to bankroll growth.
The tech moguls took to X to rip each other apart again, this time over Apple's lawsuit and Musk's SpaceX IPO.
FEATURE The artificial-intelligence trade appeared to be reignited Tuesday as investors digested a slew of bank earnings reports ahead of the consumer-price index inflation report for June. International Business Machines sank 23% after the company’s preliminary second-quarter adjusted earnings and revenue missed analysts’ targets.

TSMC, the world's largest manufacturer of advanced AI chips, will likely notch a fifth consecutive quarter of record earnings, driven by booming AI infrastructure spending. Analysts say demand for Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co's (TSMC) 3-nanometre and 2-nanometre process technologies for AI chips, as well as for its advanced chip packaging technology, CoWoS, remains strong. Its market capitalisation is now nearly double that of South Korean rival Samsung Electronics at around $1.97 trillion.
Almost every advanced AI chip on the planet is built in one place. Nvidia's Blackwell processors, Apple's silicon, custom accelerators for Meta and AMD — they all run through the same foundry in Taiwan. That foundry is Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSM). TSMC is set to ...
Apple’s next iPhone problem may not be demand. It may be the price of making demand profitable. Investing.com -- Citi has increased its price target on Apple (NASDAQ: AAPL) to $365 and maintained its Buy rating on the stock in a note on Monday, citing the company's ability to gain market share in a challenging devices environment and its capacity to implement selective price increases to protect margins.
Global smartphone shipments fell 11% in the second quarter to their lowest level for the period since 2013, as a prolonged memory chip shortage drove up handset prices and dampened demand, according to early estimates from Counterpoint Research. Apple bucked the trend with a 3% rise in shipments, taking its global market share to a record 20% in the quarter on resilient demand for its premium iPhone lineup and keeping prices unchanged. However, analysts expect price increases in the coming months.

In a classic “Friday news dump,” Apple filed a federal lawsuit in California against OpenAI, accusing its once-partner of stealing some of its trade secrets. Specifically, it’s alleging that two of its former employees brought proprietary and confidential information about its hardware to OpenAI when they joined. The lawsuit calls to mind Waymo’s trade secret theft lawsuit against Uber, filed in 2017. Similarly, a well-established tech giant publicly accused a fast-ascending private company, loc
