Analysis-Europe's push to break Big Tech's grip tempered by internal debate

European leaders are divided on how far to go in curbing Big Tech as they weigh momentous decisions over giving EU firms preferential access to mobile satellite spectrum and limiting large multinationals' access to EU cloud tenders. On Tuesday, ‌Reuters reported Brussels was likely to leave an opening for Elon Musk's Starlink and Amazon's low-earth-orbit satellite business Leo to acquire lucrative European ‌mobile satellite spectrum next year as a result of a compromise that will reserve the bulk of frequencies for European firms. A separate decision on EU cloud tenders set for June 3 is expected to temper the influence of U.S. firms such as Amazon, Alphabet's Google and Microsoft, which dominate the global cloud market with a combined 63% share.

Nvidia CEO has blunt message on AI layoffs in 2026

Amazon cited AI efficiency when it eliminated 16,000 corporate roles. Microsoft cited AI when it cut more than 15,000 positions. Across Big Tech, the explanation for layoffs has become almost predictable: we are doing more with less, and AI is why. Jensen Huang has a problem with that story. And he ...

The Pope’s Anti-AI Message Adds to the Industry’s Popularity Problem

Pope Leo XIV made an impassioned case against the harms of artificial intelligence and data centers in a widely followed letter, adding to the industry’s growing public-relations problem. Just last month, privately held Compass Datacenters, which is backed by Brookfield Asset Management pulled out of attempts to build an over 800-acre Virginia campus after opposition and increasing regulations. In his encyclical letter released Monday, the pope warned about AI’s environmental and social impacts.

Companies Are Cutting Jobs for AI — But Not the Billions Paid to Investors

Since ChatGPT burst onto the scene in late November 2022, artificial intelligence has transformed from a buzzword into one of the biggest capital allocation shifts in corporate history. Hyperscalers and Big Tech leaders have committed hundreds of billions of dollars to data centers, GPUs, and AI infrastructure. The Big Four hyperscalers — Alphabet (NASDAQ:GOOG), Amazon ... While heavily skewed by a rebound from 2022 lows, eBay's (EBAY) net income grew an average of 96.7% over three years, yet its earnings per share surged 101.1%. This gap is the denominator effect in action, where a shrinking share count amplifies shareholder returns. Is this a sign of a flawless machine, or a company buying time.

Amazon Stock’s Simple Path To 20% Upside

Amazon's (AMZN) current valuation presents an interesting dynamic. At $266 per share with a trailing P/E of roughly 31.5, the stock appears reasonably priced compared to its three-year average of roughly 38.0. This shift from historical multiples suggests potential room for upside, but not necessarily through market re-rating. Instead, the case rests on a more fundamental driver: earnings expansion powered by revenue growth and underlying operating efficiency.
