Micron Technology on Thursday signed long-term agreements with automotive suppliers, including chip designer Qualcomm and audio products maker Harman, to secure memory and storage components that powers AI-enabled vehicles. The agreements come as the industry races to expand manufacturing capacity to meet the booming demand for memory chips due to the rapid adoption of AI tools. These chips are used in data centers, consumer electronics and vehicles, where they support AI-enabled features such as ADAS and digital cockpits.
TYLSemi, a startup founded by executives from recent Qualcomm acquisition AlphaWave, on Tuesday said it has raised $43 million in early funding to help companies build their own AI chips. Taiwanese memory chipmaker Nanya Technology said on Friday it plans capital spending of more than T$200 billion ($6.2 billion) next year, roughly four times this year's figure, amid soaring demand for memory chips as it rides an AI boom.
