The August consumer price index, out at 8:30 a.m. ET, is the last hope to avoid a Federal Reserve rate hike next week, but the chances appear to be fading with oil prices holding near $100 a barrel. It may take a tepid reading for core CPI inflation to keep the Fed on hold after Thursday's producer price index showed a jump in hospital prices. S&P 500 futures pointed solidly higher early Friday amid a positive reception for Oracle earnings and oil's pullback from above $100 on news that Iran's foreign minister will meeting with Gulf state counterparts to discuss the path to reopening the Strait of Hormuz.

Polymarket named Warren Jenson as its first companywide CFO, who joins at a pivotal time as the company looks to expand its market share. Jenson has a long track record in finance and previously served as finance chief of Amazon, Electronic Arts, Delta Air Lines and NBC during the ’90s and early 2000s, my colleague Katherine Hamilton reports. Most recently, he was CFO at Nielsen, which he left in January 2025.

Diesel prices have hit $6 a gallon for the first time in history and Brent crude oil prices are trading at around $105 a barrel—though they have fallen back from earlier highs of close to $110.
