Stock futures pointed to a higher open Tuesday, a day after the Nasdaq Composite and S&P 500 began the week with losses, as oil prices retreated and bitcoin topped $80,000 for the first time in more than three months.

Stock markets were heading for a positive open as investors positioned themselves ahead of crucial earnings and economic events and shrugged off a raft of U.S. sanctions on Iran. Nasdaq 100 futures were jumping 1% in Tuesday’s premarket after fears about artificial-intelligence spending by big tech companies sparked a selloff the previous session, leading the tech-heavy Nasdaq Composite to finish in the red. In a speech on Monday, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said the U.S. was sanctioning more than 60 entities, individuals, and vessels tied to the Iranian regime, but didn't outline any specific steps against individual countries such as China, a major buyer of oil from the Middle Eastern Country.

Oil pulled back and the dollar strengthened to a one-week high after the Treasury Secretary warned countries and companies that do business with Iran will face U.S. retaliation.

Although history conclusively favors long-term optimists, the short-term outlook for equities is downright ugly.

Tech stocks slid for the seventh consecutive session, the sector’s longest losing streak since September 2022.

But I think this is a market that's kind of waiting for some direction, and there's maybe a little nerves ahead of all that.”</p><p>:: Archive</p><p>Meanwhile, the Trump administration announced a possible expansion of sanctions on countries doing business with Iran as part of what it billed as an "economic D-Day," but stopped short of actually imposing penalties.</p><p>Chip stocks sold off, with Nvidia dropping 3%, Micron Technology falling nearly 6% and Broadcom sliding about 2.5%.</p><p>Separately, President Trump warned that tariffs on cars, trucks and automotive parts from Canada would be increased to 50% starting January 1 after trade talks collapsed over the weekend.</p><p>Shares of Ford and General Motors fell, while trucking company J.B.
