SoFi stock is down 34% YTD. Is it in the buy zone?

SoFi launched a bank, a credit card empire, and a stablecoin on Mastercard's network, yet the stock sits nearly where it started five years ago. One operating metric suggests the everything-app thesis is actually working, so what keeps the chart pinned?

SoFi’s efforts to scale its non-lending, capital-light businesses augur well for growth.

Mastercard has delivered a strong multi year gain for shareholders, yet the recent soft patch in the share price puts the focus squarely on whether that long run is supported by the returns it earns on its capital. Over the past 5 years, Mastercard has returned 63.3%, which puts real weight on the question of whether the underlying economics of the business are rich enough to support that kind of compounding. New projects such as stablecoin settlement with SoFi and AI enabled payment and...
We used to think of the internet as a place where humans clicked buttons to buy things. Now, it is becoming a place where software agents do the clicking for us, and the plumbing underneath is finally starting to look like it was built for the job. For the past few years, the financial industry […]

New U.S. Bank survey underscores key differences in how younger investors approach investing compared with Gen X and Millennials.

Consumer lending stocks are pulling back in Wednesday morning trading while the broader financials complex barely moves. Shares of Upstart Holdings (NASDAQ:UPST), Affirm Holdings (NASDAQ:AFRM) and SoFi Technologies (NASDAQ:SOFI) are all sliding, and the sector index sits practically unchanged. That gap between the three lenders and the broader sector is the story. The Financial Select […]

Consumer lenders are getting hit far harder than the broader financials sector on Wednesday, and the gap between them points to something more specific than a rough market day for bank stocks.
In this episode of the Daily Wolf, Scott Melker discusses Mastercard (MA) and SoFi's (SOFI) new stablecoin partnership, Binance investing $100 million into Circle's (CRCL) global USDC expansion, and a strong two-day run for bitcoin (BTC-USD) ETFs which raked in $1.7 billion in inflows.

SoFi is moving more than $25 billion in annualized card volume to SoFiUSD via Mastercard as fee-based revenues become a larger part of its mix.

Mastercard expands stablecoin settlement with SoFi, moving its blockchain-based settlement efforts into a live, large-scale card program.

SoFi Technologies (NasdaqGS:SOFI) introduced SoFiUSD as the settlement asset for its entire card program on Mastercard's network on 21 September 2026. The move marks the first use of a U.S. bank issued stablecoin by a nationally chartered bank to settle a major card program. SoFi Bank is using SoFiUSD for real world payment settlements, connecting its regulated banking operations directly with blockchain based infrastructure. This full card migration to SoFiUSD settlement on Mastercard's...

SoFi Stock Gets Big Crypto Boost as Mastercard Settlement Goes Live

SOFI's record loan originations are testing its credit resilience, with charge-offs and delinquencies improving despite rapid lending growth.

SoFi Technologies started settling card transactions using its own stablecoin on Tuesday, a program the company says is the first of its kind for a U.S. bank. All debit- and credit-card transactions will be settled using SoFi USD, its dollar-backed stablecoin, over Mastercard payments network, SoFi said. The company said the shift will showcase how bank-issued stablecoins—a type of cryptocurrency pegged to the U.S. dollar and backed by assets like bank deposits or Treasury bills—can coexist with existing payment infrastructure by “helping bridge traditional financial systems and blockchain-based networks.”
The short version is that a nationally chartered bank just started settling card transactions in its own stablecoin, and the interesting part is not that it happened but what it reveals about the shape of the competition to come. On September 22, SoFi Bank N.A. and Mastercard announced that live stablecoin settlement is now running […]

SoFi just quietly moved its entire card program onto a blockchain that merchants never have to touch, and the four obstacles that killed crypto payments at retail for a decade may have all vanished at once.

SoFi Technologies (SOFI) and Mastercard on Tuesday said their stablecoin partnership is fully operational and handling real transactions. SoFi stock climbed on the news. Under the partnership, SoFi's debit and credit card program with more than $25 billion in annualized volume has shifted to Mastercard's payment network using its bank-issued stablecoin. The companies announced the partnership in March. With the...

SoFi Technologies (NASDAQ:SOFI) shares gained 3% on Tuesday after the company announced that SoFi Bank had become the first nationally chartered US bank to introduce live stablecoin settlement across Mastercard’s global payments network. The bank is migrating its entire debit and credit card programme to blockchain-based settlement using SoFiUSD, its US dollar-backed stablecoin.

SoFi stock just popped 5% while peers trade flat and the broader market barely budges, raising a question that cuts both ways: does that divergence signal a comeback or just a temporary bounce in a stock that has lost half its value this year?
SoFi and Mastercard are exploring additional SoFiUSD use cases, including cross-border payments and remittances.

PayPal (PYPL) stock has fallen 14.2% over the past month to about $52, and it is still up 23.6% over three months. The bigger question is how far PayPal falls when a real market shock arrives, and how long it stays down. Its record says further than the market. Its turnaround asks for a long wait.
