$CCJ reported an adjusted net loss of C$2M for the third quarter, against adjusted net earnings of C$32M a year ago, as a planned but longer maintenance outage at the Key Lake mill cut uranium production 20%. Revenue was flat at C$619M, adjusted EBITDA fell 14% to C$267M, and the 2026 production and delivery ranges were narrowed toward their lower half. The realized uranium price rose 6% to US$65.78 a pound. This recap walks the numbers, the guide, the read across the Nuclear / SMR bubble, and the lines to watch next.

The TL;DR. A quarter shaped by the Key Lake shutdown: 3.5M pounds produced (down from 4.4M), 5.6M pounds delivered, higher unit costs, and cash from operations of only C$3M. Westinghouse kept improving underneath (our share of its adjusted EBITDA rose to C$143M from C$124M). Before the US open, the stock was quoted around $76, about 9% below Thursday's $83.49 close.

This recap is drawn from the news release (6-K exhibit 99.1, filed October 30, 2026 before the open). All amounts are in Canadian dollars unless marked US$. Management's call commentary is not covered here.

The print

$CCJ reported the quarter ended September 30, 2026 before the US open on October 30. The data feed QA tracks had about $0.34 of adjusted EPS and $0.72B of revenue as the consensus; the print came in well below both.

By segment:

  • Uranium: production 3.5M pounds (down 20%), deliveries 5.6M pounds (down 8%), average realized price US$65.78 a pound (up 6%). Revenue C$518M, earnings before taxes C$175M, adjusted EBITDA C$179M against C$220M a year ago.
  • Fuel Services: earnings before taxes C$13M, adjusted EBITDA C$24M, close to last year.
  • Westinghouse (Cameco's share): a net loss of C$24M, better than the C$32M loss a year ago; adjusted EBITDA C$143M, up from C$124M.

The balance sheet held: C$860M of cash, C$1.0B of debt and an undrawn C$1.0B credit facility. The board declared the 2026 annual dividend of C$0.24 a share, payable December 15.

Cameco says the narrower ranges reflect more certainty on timing as the year ends. Over the next five years, it has contracts for average annual deliveries of more than 28M pounds, heavier in 2026 to 2028 and lighter in 2029 and 2030, and it plans to keep adding volumes with market-related pricing. These are company guides, not results.

Nuclear / SMR read-through

The standing QA thesis on /stocks/ccj is that Cameco is the integrated western uranium supplier, from the mine to the reactor through its Westinghouse stake. This print tests the mine half and supports the reactor half.

  • Mines: the Key Lake outage was planned to be longer this year for new infrastructure and repairs. It explains most of the production drop and the cost increase; it is a timing and cost story, not a demand one.
  • Price: the realized price kept rising (US$65.78 against US$62.12), and the contract book stays above 28M pounds a year for five years.
  • Reactors: Westinghouse's adjusted EBITDA rose, it began buying long-lead parts for Poland's first AP1000 unit, and a non-binding US and Korea framework anticipates up to US$120B of financing for up to eight large US reactors, six of them AP1000s.

Net read: the quarter was weak on the mine side and on cash, for a reason the company had flagged. The reactor side, the newer half of the story, keeps building.

Peer reaction

$CCJ's closest correlated names in the QA universe are $NXE (0.86 over 252 days), $DNN (0.83), $UEC (0.80), $UUUU (0.74), $LEU (0.63) and $SMR (0.62).

  • NXE, DNN and UEC are developers and producers priced on the same uranium market; a move in Cameco usually moves them, whatever their own news.
  • UUUU adds rare earths to uranium, so it reads through less directly.
  • LEU and SMR sit further down the fuel cycle and reactor chain, where Westinghouse's order flow is the relevant read.

What worked

  • Realized uranium price of US$65.78 a pound, up 6%.
  • Westinghouse adjusted EBITDA (Cameco's share) of C$143M, up 15%.
  • A contract book of more than 28M pounds a year over five years.
  • A strong balance sheet: C$860M of cash and an undrawn C$1.0B facility.
  • The annual dividend of C$0.24 a share.

What broke

  • Production. 3.5M pounds, down 20%, on the longer Key Lake shutdown.
  • Margins. Gross profit down 28% on higher unit costs.
  • Cash. Cash from operations of C$3M, from C$156M a year ago.
  • Adjusted earnings. A C$2M adjusted net loss, far below the consensus in the data feed.
  • The guide. Production narrowed to 19.5M to 20.5M pounds, the top of the old range removed.
  • The tape. Down 22% over a year at Thursday's close, and about 9% lower before the open.

What to watch

  • Next earnings. Q4 and full year 2026, expected in February on Cameco's usual cadence (not yet confirmed).
  • Key Lake. The commissioning of the new infrastructure and the restart of production.
  • Deliveries. Whether the year lands inside 29.5M to 30.5M pounds.
  • Contracting. New long-term volumes and the pricing mechanisms in them.
  • Westinghouse. Definitive agreements behind the US and Korea framework, and the Poland and Slovakia projects.
  • Management. Leah Hipperson becomes CFO on January 1, 2027.
