$ALAB reported record revenue of $584.9M for the third quarter, up 49% from the second quarter and 154% from a year ago, and guided the fourth quarter to $730M to $750M. Scorpio fabric switches became the company's largest product family, which is the step our /stocks/alab thesis in the Networking / Optical bubble was built around. This recap walks the print, the guide, the Scorpio ramp, the read across the bubble and the lines to watch next.
The TL;DR. Revenue grew $192M in one quarter and GAAP operating income doubled to $179M. Gross margin slipped to 72.3% as switches took a bigger share of the mix. The Q4 guide midpoint of $740M is about 26% above Q3, and the stock went into the print down 40% over a month in the data QA tracks.
This recap is drawn from the news release (8-K exhibit 99.1) filed on November 3, 2026 after the close. The 10-Q and the conference call (1:30 p.m. Pacific Time the same day) are not covered here.
The print
$ALAB reported the quarter ended September 30, 2026 after the US close on November 3. The data feed QA tracks carried an estimate of about $0.36B of revenue and $0.69 of EPS, both below the second quarter's actual figures ($392.4M and $0.80 non-GAAP), so we treat that estimate as stale and do not score the print against it.
| Metric | Q3 2026 | Q2 2026 | Q3 2025 | YoY |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Revenue | $584.9M | $392.4M | $230.6M | +154% |
| Gross margin (GAAP) | 72.3% | 73.3% | 76.2% | -3.9 pts |
| Research and development | $171.0M | $135.9M | $78.9M | +117% |
| Operating income (GAAP) | $179.1M | $89.2M | $55.4M | +223% |
| Operating margin (GAAP) | 30.6% | 22.7% | 24.0% | +6.6 pts |
| Operating margin (non-GAAP) | 44.7% | 39.1% | 41.7% | +3.0 pts |
| Net income (GAAP) | $182.9M | $153.1M | $91.1M | +101% |
| EPS (GAAP, diluted) | $0.99 | $0.83 | $0.50 | +98% |
| EPS (non-GAAP, diluted) | $1.32 | $0.80 | $0.49 | +169% |
What moved the numbers:
- Scorpio. The release says Scorpio "ramped to high-volume production and became our largest product family by revenue," led by the X-Series 320-lane fabric switch.
- Operating leverage. Revenue rose 49% in the quarter while operating expenses rose 23%, so GAAP operating income doubled from Q2.
- Margin mix. GAAP gross margin fell a full point from Q2 and about four points from a year ago. The release does not explain the move; a larger share of switch revenue is the obvious question for the call.
- Tax. GAAP net income grew less than operating income because Q2 carried a $50.3M tax benefit and Q3 a $9.1M tax provision.
Over nine months, revenue is $1,285.7M against $581.9M a year ago, and GAAP net income $416.3M against $174.2M.
The guide
| Q4 2026 outlook | GAAP | Non-GAAP |
|---|---|---|
| Revenue | $730M to $750M | same |
| Gross margin | about 72% | about 72% |
| Operating expenses | $273M to $279M | $194M to $200M |
| Diluted EPS | $1.13 to $1.17 | $1.62 to $1.66 |
| Diluted shares | about 187M | about 187M |
The revenue midpoint of $740M is about 26% above Q3, and the non-GAAP EPS midpoint of $1.64 about 24% above Q3's $1.32. Added to the nine months, the midpoint puts 2026 revenue near $2.03B. Gross margin is guided flat at about 72%, so the guide does not count on the mix shift reversing. These are company guides, not results.
The Scorpio ramp our video framed
Our ALAB teardown (October 12) framed the stock around sales that had doubled and a share price well under its high, with Scorpio as the product that lifts dollar content per server above retimers alone. The release gives the next pieces.
- The product mix. Scorpio became the largest family in the quarter it reached high-volume production.
- The pipeline. Aries 7 (PCIe 7 retimers, redrivers, cables and optical parts) starts sampling in Q4 2026. Leo X-Series and Leo 2 extend the memory controllers. Orion, a rack-scale reference design for neocloud and enterprise inference, reaches OEM and ODM partners from Q1 2027.
- The claim to check. Management says the portfolio positions it "to strongly grow our dollar content per accelerator." The release gives no per-accelerator figure and no customer split.
Networking / Optical read-through
The standing QA thesis on /stocks/alab is rack-scale bandwidth between accelerators, sold to all four big hyperscalers, against a bear case of customer concentration, $NVDA owning more of the rack itself, and a valuation that prices flawless execution.
- Demand. A 49% sequential jump, and a guide for another 26%, is the bubble's demand side showing up in a pure-play's revenue line.
- Amazon. Warrants issued to $AMZN reduce reported revenue: $30.4M of warrant contra revenue over nine months, against $4.0M a year ago. The more Amazon buys, the larger this line.
- Working capital. Accounts receivable rose to $284.3M from $83.2M in December and inventory to $200.9M from $59.0M, both up about 3.4 times in nine months.
- Cash. Cash and marketable securities were $1.38B at September 30, from $1.19B in December, against total liabilities of $301M. Nine-month operating cash flow was $341.5M and capital spending $73.4M. A $69.2M acquisition lifted goodwill to $91.6M.
Net read: the thesis held on the demand side, with the switch ramp arriving at scale. The costs are a lower gross margin, faster growing receivables and inventory, and the Amazon warrant growing with the volumes.

What to watch
- Next earnings. Q4 and full year 2026, expected in February on Astera's usual cadence (not yet confirmed).
- The 10-Q. Customer concentration, the warrant accounting, and what drove the gross margin down.
- Aries 7 sampling in Q4 2026 and Orion at partners from Q1 2027.
- Hyperscaler capital spending and $NVDA rack designs, the two inputs to Astera's attach rate.
- Levels. One curated level on ALAB, the key Fibonacci line at $186 set in April, below the November 3 close.
